Mahler's Song of the Earth in Sydney

★★★★ “A wonderful thing… all the beauty, the pain and the futility.” - The Herald, Scotland on Mahler’s Song of the Earth

Stuart Skelton and Catherine Carby star in this extraordinary encounter with Mahler’s monumental song cycle, directed by Richard Tognetti.

Richard, Stuart Skelton and the ACO first performed this extraordinary arrangement of Mahler’s song cycle at the Edinburgh Festival in 2016, where it left audiences enraptured and critics in awe. After almost a decade-long wait, the anticipation of bringing this monumental performance back is clear, not only among our audience but also our musicians, with Principal Violin Satu Vänskä saying she has "dreamed of bringing it to Australia" and "loves getting lost in the spell of the fantasy".

Prepare yourself for this glorious journey through the full spectrum of human emotion, moving through darkness and light, cruelty and love, into beauty and catharsis, as the ACO are joined by opera stars Stuart Skelton and Catherine Carby, alongside some of the world’s best percussion, wind and brass musicians.
