2016 NGV Architecture Commission - M@ STUDIO Architects

Today the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) unveiled a neon pink car wash structure in the NGV International Garden for the 2016 NGV Architecture Commission by Melbourne based M@ STUDIO Architects. Kel and Rav from Melbourne Minor attended the media preview and kindly shared these pics with us.

The structure was inspired by a car wash in Blackburn and prompts visitors to rethink the design of the city centres where a car wash, petrol station and retail outlets are part of our day to day.

The car wash is 23 metre long and features five lanes of bright pink astroturf, waves, road markings, mist wand walls all topped with a sleek mirrored car wash sign.

The structure will play host to events, live music, talks, performances and more over spring and summer as well as provide visitors a place to gather, play and daydream. Bring the little ones for a wonder around the gallery and garden, plan a picnic and make sure they bring their toy cars for a car wash and walk amongst the water mist for that car wash feeling.
